Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, an ironworker and Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy Wilson was first child of six. Nancy grew up listening to the records of her father and his love for music. When she was just 4years old, Nancy was aware her destiny was to be a performer. The talent she had developed was discovered when she sang in the church choir. In high school her appearances on Skyline Melodies. When she was 15years old, Nancy started her journey in night clubs. After graduating from high school the 17-year old Nancy took a class for a year at Ohio's Central State College now Central State University prior to leaving and becoming an accomplished singer. In 1956 she released her debut record in Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band with whom she toured from 1956 until 1958. While in the group Nancy made her first recording in the studio of Dot Records. Cannonball told her she should move into New York and go to The Big Town to further her professional career. After just a few days, Adderley's manager was impressed by her voice and hired her. In 1960, she was signed to Capitol Records, and that same year she released her first single. Guess Who I Saw Today. Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. In the era of Adderley Wilson's leadership, Wilson started focusing on R&B but soon shifted to jazz and torch music. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped propel her into the spotlight as well as her hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. Following that year, she received an invitation to perform at New York's Coconut Grove, the most famous night club in America.
