Nancy Wilson is a Grammy Award winner in jazz. She was born the 20th of February, 1937 in the city of Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson who worked at an ironworks and Lillian Ryan, a former domestic employee. Nancy was the sixth of seven kids. Nancy was heavily influenced by her father's musical tastes and records played in the family home. Nancy knew that she was going to be a musician at the age of 4 years old. She developed her skills by performing in the choir at church. When she was 15 and had a chance to win the talent show on T.V. and began appearing on the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while being in High School. The same year, she began to work in nightclubs. The first album she recorded was in 1956 with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. The band toured with her from 1956-1958. Nancy started recording with Dot Records in 1956, while with the group. Cannonball adderley advised her to travel to New York in order to advance her career. The city she went to was The Big Town, New York in 1959. Within a short time she had been singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road near The Bronx. The representative of Adderley was able to hear her perform and promptly signed her.
